Marco Antonio Flores-Villanueva was born in 1961 in Lima, Peru, where he
received his first musical training, studying theory and piano with Rosa
America Silva Wagner at the National Conservatory of Music. Facing parental
opposition to a career as a pianist and composer, Marco studied Law and Political
Science at San Marcos National University in Lima. After eleven years of
successful law practice, Marco quit his profession and flew to the United
States to study composition with John Adams at the Boston Conservatory of
Music, graduating in the class of 2001 with honors.
Since 1997 his music has been performed throughout New England (USA) and Breclav (Czech Republic). His music is characterized by a depth of feeling, sincerity, and beauty that is all too rare today for serious composers. He currently lives in Boston with his wife, working as composer and piano teacher.
